The new album, which sees Bowie re-uniting with producer Tony Visconti for the first time in 20 years, also sees the appearance of a couple of very special guests.
WHO legend Pete Townshend and Foo Fighter Dave Grohl have both added guitar parts to the record.
Townshend, whom last appeared on a David Bowie record back in 1980 (on the 'Scary Monsters And Super Creeps' album track 'Because You're Young') adds an incendiary lead guitar line to a track entitled 'SLOW BURN', which is tipped to be the lead off track from the album in the US. Bowie calls it "the most eccentric and aggressive guitar I've heard Pete play, quite unlike anything else hès done recently." 'SLOW BURN' also features a performance from The Borneo Horns who accompanied Bowie on the 'Serious Moonlight' tour.
Other tracks that are expected to make the album include the sublime 'I WOULD BE YOUR SLAVÈ which Bowie recently performed in New York at the Tibet House benefit show at Carnegie Hall, the uptempo 'AFRAID' which has become a firm fan favourite after an exclusive Bowienet (www.davidbowie.com) webcast,'MARCHING','WOOD JACKSON' and '5.15 THE ANGELS HAVE GONÈ.
The tracks for the album have all been mixed by Tony Visconti, however, the album opener, the ethereal 'SUNDAY' has also been remixed by Bowie buddy MOBY, the French electronica duo 'AIR' have supplied a remix of the album track 'A BETTER FUTURÈ. The release details of these two specials will be announced shortly.
The album is rounded out with the title track 'HEATHEN', the epic 'SLIP AWAY' and 'EVERYONE SAYS HI', a beautifully summery tune with a classic Tony Visconti string arrangement.
All songs were written and recorded during July and August of last year.
'HEATHEN' will be released on ISO Records via Columbia on June 10th. More details about the album, it’s packaging and Bowiès live plans for the rest of the year will become available shortly.
